Why Pilates?
______
Physical therapists, orthopedists, and surgeons frequently refer patients to STOTT Pilates practitioners to treat complex conditions. Pilates is an excellent help for any & everybody, even those currently injured & disease-free. However, if we live long enough, something is bound to need attention. My knowledge base, comprehensive training, and holistic approach have prepared me to assist those experiencing: Spine-health (scoliosis, neck & cervical issues, spinal fusions, disc issues, sciatica), Neurological Conditions (MS, Parkinson’s Disease, Stroke, TBI, Neuropathy), Women’s care (pre-and post-natal, breast cancer recovery, DR), diseases of aging (osteoporosis, arthritis), post injury rehabilitation (rotator cuff, hip, knee, ankle), hyper-mobility, and more.
Jump Free Pilates focuses on the following areas of concentration:
Spine Health:
Pilates improves postural alignment and provides a fitness option to increase flexibility, strength, and movement integration for people with back pain. I work to develop a safe and enjoyable Pilates program with appropriate exercise modification for clients who have a multitude of back care concerns, such as scoliosis, herniated disk(s), stenosis, hyper kyphosis, hyper lordosis, spondylolisthesis, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, osteoporosis, and general back pain.
Neurological Diseases & Injuries:
Pilates can dramatically improve the quality of life for people living with neurological diseases and injuries to empower them to live full, active lives. if you're living with a neurological condition like Neuropathy, MS, Parkinson's Disease, stroke, or TBI, Pilates can help. Exercises must be safe, effective, and low-impact. I address issues common to many neurological diseases, including balance difficulties, weakness, muscle spasticity and rigidity, and gait abnormalities, to improve quality of life.
Women's care:
Pilates during pregnancy and the postpartum period has been proven to positively affect women in profound ways, long after their child-bearing years. By supporting and releasing the pelvic floor, toning the abdominal muscles, and maintaining ideal alignment and posture, pregnant women remain strong, nurtured, and prepared for birth, while the post-partum woman are guided to swift recovery and renewal.
Breast cancer recovery is a delicate time. as your body heals, you will face physical and emotional challenges. Exercise, especially pilates, is an important part of your journey. Joseph Pilates invented this form of exercise specifically to help rehabilitate women after breast cancer surgeries.
Ageing Population:
In the senior population, disuse of the body often results in patterns of poor posture, gait deficiencies, and a general decrease in balance, coordination, bone and muscle mass, and even cognitive skills. Medical professionals swear by physical exercise as a tonic for the many ailments plaguing an aging body, and for seniors, it is especially important that exercise be safe, effective, and low-impact. There are many ways that Pilates can be used to improve quality of life as we age: Balance and Coordination, Bone Strength, Brain Power, Joint Health, Good Posture, Accident Prevention, and a sense of Well-being. The specific breathing techniques used in Pilates help reduce stress, and when combined with repetitive, flowing movement, promote circulation in the body. The endorphins released after a good Pilates session leave practitioners feeling more energized and in good spirits. Most practitioners report feeling better physically and mentally than when they first arrived to the session.
Rehabilitation:
Pilates is the go-to method for exercise following injury & physical therapy and is recommended by PTs and doctors due to its therapeutic nature. Pilates exercises can be modified to meet the injured client's needs in their current state. If the injured client is in acute pain there are plenty of exercises/modifications to work around the affected area creating strength and support (both globally and locally). Pilates asks the client to connect the mind and the body - it requires self-responsibility. As a result, the injured client feels they play an integral role in their healing. Pilates for rehab focuses on the needs of the individual. Emphasis is placed on adequate mobility throughout the whole body in an effort to then increase strength through stability. Pilates for rehab strengthens the weak areas of the body bringing balance and functionality.
